Day 128 of 365 Things to do in Stockton: M.E.Ch.A and MEGA 100 Car Show

This Saturday, September 11th the MEChA (the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan) a Pacific Latino organization at U.O.P. and Mega 100 will play host to a classic automobiles and motorcycles show.

From University of the Pacific:

Join M.E.Ch.A and MEGA 100 for a car show, featuring classic automobiles and motorcycles from as far back as the 1930s, including a 1937 Plymouth Convert, 1949 Mercury Laydmerc and 1960′s Chevy Impalas. Part of Pacific’s Latino Heritage Month celebration, the event is designed to educate the community about Chicano culture.

It will take place from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11 in Downtown Stockton on Weber Street.  This event is FREE and open to the public.

This labor day weekend marks the 29th annual Stockton Community Labor Day Powwow.  American Indians from all over Western America come to celebrate the culture and traditions of the American Indians. There will be authentic Native American Foods & Crafts.

This is a FREE event which starts Friday the 3rd – Sunday, 5th.

If you are staying in town this weekend, stop by and check it out.  This would make a great learning experience for kids too.

Day 124 of 365 things to do in Stockton: Calaveras River Pedestrian Path

 Looking for a scenic place to stretch your legs, walk the dog or do a little fishing?  Head on over to Calaveras River Path and enjoy just that.  The Delta on the right and beautiful homes on the left, depending on which way your walking, make for a peaceful time were you can clear your head.

You can access the pathway at two points as shown by the arrows on the map.  However, the better way to enter is off March lane near Buckley cove.  There you can park on the street and go right through the gate.Make sure you check the times which the path is open as it changes throughout the year.  See the picture above to see the hours and have a good time!

Need a reason to get out of house and party?  Check out the Reggae on the Delta this Saturday, August 28th! For just $20 you will be socking out to the hottest Reggae, salsa, roca, zouk and Raga around.  This is defenitaly a unique yearly event in Stockton.

It’s an all day party.

Day 121 of 365 Things to do in Stockton: San Francisco Giants Irish Heritage Night

Do you like live baseball?  How about beer?  It’s a good combination, and they can be both provided for you at the San Francisco Giants Irish Heritage Night Family Bus Trip.  Finnegan’s Pub and Grill has arranged a bus trip to the San Francisco Bay this Friday, August 27th.  The Giants are in the middle of a playoff race, so every game counts.  Head out and support the GIANTS!!!

If you’re looking for a little racing excitement head on out to the Delta Speedway.  The Delta Speedway is located at San Joaquin County Fairgrounds, off Charter Way in Stockton.  The track is an 1/8 mile dirt oval for micro-sprint cars, with driver ages ranging from 5 years and up.  The little carts may seem small but they sure do whip around the track a super fast speeds.

 The Delta Speedway will continue to have races through October.  See the schedule below.

Day 117 of 365 Things to do in Stockton: Miracle Mile Night

If your not in the loop of some of the “things” taking place around town then you may not know about this one.  The Miracle Mile Night Street Festival is happening this Saturday night from 5-10pm.

Scheduled to entertain you will be a classic car show with cars pre 1979.  Check out some of the pics on the Miracle Mile Night website from last year.  There are some awesome looking cars!  That evening will also feature the final round of the of the pin-up girl contest.

While you browse through viewing the classic cars and checking out the arts & crafts, antiques and kid zone, live music will be playing on 3 different stages located along the Miracle Mile.  Im suer the evening will not go without good food and beverages too.

Day 114 of 365 Things to do in Stockton: TowerFest

As if there wasn’t enough things going on this weekend, here is one more event to choose from.  It’s a FREE event on the Delta at the KOA Tower Park.  There will be music, vendors, kids activities, lots to do for the whole family including a k-9 demonstration, Splash from Stockton Ports and Thor from the Thunder.  So, if your not planning on going into downtown Stockton to the Barrio Fiesta this weekend, head out on the Delta and have a good time at TowerFest.

This event is from 10 am to 9 pm on august 14th at the Stockton Delta KOA at Tower Park Marina off highway 12.

Another great event is coming your way in Downtown Stockton! Tomorrow, Friday the 13th, yep its Friday the 13th tomorrow, the Latin Magic Band, Art Walk, and Craft Beer Garden will all take place in Janet Leigh Plaza. 

It’s the 2nd friday of the Month, and on 2nd friday’s good things happen downtown.  You will be able to sample craft brews for only $2 a fill. Featuring Blue Moon and Pale Moon!
Time: 5 – 9 pm

Music:
Latin Magic, free live performance, 7-9 pm. Latin Magic will rock the plaza!  This 11-person band plays an exciting mix of cumbias, oldies, latin rock, and old school music.

Art:
Meet the Artist Reception at the Tidewater Art Gallery (day 73 of 365), 5-8 pm. Entitled “4 the Joy of It” the August exhibit is a group show featuring three resident jewelry artists, Gay Lynn Saunders, Susan Winton and Rebekah Burr-Siegal, and a guest artist from Lodi, Debbie Kafton.  The show presents a collection of wearable art showcasing unique talents and different artistic visions. For these artists, jewelry design is both a labor of love and a constant source of joy.

The 38th Annual festival Barrio festival takes place this weekend as will be jam-packed of activities, native food and entertainment.

For those of you who have had Filipino food you know that it will be great!  And for those who have not, get ready for some delicious stuff.  Bring and empty stomach and come hungry!  You don’t want to miss this one.
