Grupe Park has 2 softball fields, a MLB regulation size baseball diamond, Full court Basketball court, tennis courts, play grounds and tons of open space to fly kites, kick the soccer ball around.  It has a nice long path to walk, jog or ride you bikes around too.

Prowlin’ Pacific is a festival for the Stockton community presented by The University of the Pacific’s Marketing Club, PAMA (Pacific American Marketing Association).  Bring your family and friends & enjoy an evening of entertainment!

The photograph will be taken at Noon looking at the crowd on the streets of the Miracle Mile. The Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic and a stage will be erected in the middle of the street.  Volunteer entertainers will sing, dance and tell jokes to the citizens of Stockton, while volunteer artist are busy painting a wall mural on the corner of Pacific and Adams Street.

Saturday April 23rd – 11am

Non-profit organizations have been invited to set up information booths and KJOY and KWIN will be providing live feed from the event.  The City Council proclaimed April as “Stockton is Magnificent” month and local school children will be displaying paintings and essays titled, “What I like about Stockton”.  The Record will be on hand to document the event, along with a videographer and several photographers.

Now through April 1st at the University of the Pacific is noted painter and printmaker William S. Rice’s (1873-1963) artwork.  The catered reception, Thursday March 17, 5:30 p.m. and a talk by Rice’s grandson, Carl Treseder, on the artist and his work at 6:00 p.m.

More about William Rice:

He longed to preserve the natural beauty of turn-of-the-century California through his art. In 1900, Rice traveled from Pennsylvania to Stockton to serve as Supervisor of Art for the city’s public schools. While living in Stockton, Rice became captivated by the local landscape. He spent a lifetime capturing our region’s visual wealth.

Curated by Rice’s great-granddaughter, Pacific senior Marie-Clare Treseder, this exhibition provides an exclusive opportunity to experience the largest single collection of W.S. Rice’s work. The show includes prints and watercolors from rarely seen private collections, as well as several of Rice’s personal effects.

The Honors Concert is an annual event featuring the county’s most gifted and talented middle school band and choir students. It is co-sponsored by the San Joaquin County Office of Education, Delta Community College and the San Joaquin County Music Educators’ Association. Participation is open to all middle school band and choir directors and their students in San Joaquin County.

One of the director of the Band is Chris Anderson from Don Riggio School and many of his students.  See them perform Oye Como Va. These are very talented kids so it should be a great show!

Fruit at the Market

You know the old saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”  It could happen when you venture out to the Delta College Flea Market.  You may find your next, can’t live without, treasure there.  You have to opportunity to find just about anything.  From flowers to fishing poles, fruit to furniture and don’t forget the frankfurters.  And those are just the “F’s.”

The Student Body Flea Market is open Saturday and Sunday, from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. throughout the year. The Market is closed on most majhor holidays.Please note that the Flea Market may also close due to poor weather conditions.

The Flea Market is the ASBG’s primary source of income, supporting student life activities on campus. Not only does the market supply jobs for students (all market personnel are students), but it provides support for the ASBG Scholarship Fund, InterClub Council activities, student leadership training and travel, and provides the income necessary to support all phases of Flea Market operations.

During his nearly 50 years in the music business, Bob Dylan has been labeled the “voice of a generation and “America’s Troubadour.” He often is described as a genius, a music sensation who seemed to appear nearly out of thin air after being selected by a Greek muse to write lyrics that will be discussed and studied for generations. And he is always labeled as a “folk” artist.

In truth, one does not have to look half-way around the world to find the roots of Dylan’s inspirations, says author Michael Gray. Dylan wasn’t touched by a muse from Greek folklore, but rather by a muse from Mississippi – the blues.

At 7 p.m. Feb. 23, Gray will discuss how the blues not only influenced Dylan’s lyrics and music structure, but continues to have a heavy influence on modern American folk music. The lecture, titled “Bob Dylan and the Poetry of the Blues,” will be held in the Janet Leigh Theatre on Pacific’s Stockton campus. It is free and open to the public.

Best viewing is at the Lexington Plaza Waterfront Hotel, Chitiva’s Bar and Grill, Sass Bar and Grill or Weber Point. Afterwards, grab a bite to eat at one of 15 restaurants near the downtown cinema or stroll through downtown to see the festive window displays.

Since you are in Downtown Stockton visit Santa’s Cottage. It will once again be open in front of the Downtown Movie Theatre at the Janet Leigh Plaza. Come to tell Santa what you would like to get for Christmas or to take a photo (with your own camera). Visits with Santa are free of charge.
