Day 115 of 365 Things to do in Stockton: Payter’s Grill

Posted in 365 Things to do in Stockton, Ca on August 17th, 2010 by keebler – View Comments

Last night was one of those nights. After a long day and no one felt like lifting a finger to make dinner, clean up and everything that goes along with it.  So, we head over to Payter’s Grill in Lincoln Center.

Payter’s is an American grill that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  The sandwiches and french fries are a big hit, but mostly I love the old-fashioned milkshakes which are made with real ice cream, nothing fake there!  Some say Payter’s has slower service, but all their meal are made fresh over the grill one at a time.  This type of cooking is worth the wait.

If you’re a sport fan, one of the dining rooms is filled with pictures and autogrpahs of former and current athletes from various sports.  It’s cool to check out while grabing a bit to eat.   The owner, Pete Pijl,  has owned Payter’s for the last 27 years and has been a baseball coach for 23 years at St. Mary’s high school

Posted in 365 Things to do in Stockton, Ca on August 4th, 2010 by keebler – View Comments

If you are tried of the eating the same old food and shopping at the same stores over and over, why not try something new?  I did.  Check out Sakura Japanese groceries & gifts.  They have a wide variety of Japanese and Asian food, candy, ice cream, gifts and more.

One of my family’s favorite things to buy their is the soft mochi flavored rice cakes.  Check out the picture below of the strawberry ones.  Another favorite of my son’s is all the specialty candy, no surprise there, they have in the store.

One of the biggest surprises in the store was the amount of different soy sauces and hot sauce which you can buy!  Being a fan of a good hot sauce, I may have found my new place for them.

If you are looking for something unique stop on in.  It’s a really neat place, check them out!

Day 107 of 365 things to do in Stockton: Bud’s Seafood Grille

Posted in 365 Things to do in Stockton, Ca, 95207 on August 3rd, 2010 by keebler – View Comments

When you are in the mood for fresh seafood, beef or chicken I recommend Bud’s Seafood Grille.  To be honest I’m not much of a seafood eater, but that doesn’t stop me from going to bud’s because I can order Bud’s beef.  An entree which is perhaps the best steak in town. What is you favorite item to order at bud’s? Comment below!

I have eaten there a number of times and from reading the reviews on yelp,  I can say most people have not had a bad meal at Bud’s.

From Bud’s Seafood Grille website:

Family owned and operated since 1993. Bud’s food can best be described as “simple and fresh”. Voted “Best Seafood Restaurant” in San Joaquin county every year since 1994, Bud’s provides the ideal seafood dining experience with an extensive menu of fresh seafood, a variety of beef and chicken entrees as well as delicious salads and fresh homemade desserts.

My mouth is watering just thinking about the delicious food.  Take a look at the menu an your will be too.  The restaurant offers catering and also has a banquet room for those larger parties.

Day 97 of 365 Things to do in Stockton: Domo’s Japanese Grill

Posted in 365 Things to do in Stockton, Ca, 95207 on July 15th, 2010 by keebler – View Comments

The other day my wife and I did not want to cook.  It was hot, we were indecisive on what to make, and neither of us felt like standing in the kitchen.  Luckily, there are many great restaurants to choose from in Stockton.  Great, another decision to make!  We choose to head over to Lincoln Center (day 2 of 365 Things to do in Stockton) and pick a place to eat.  We got there and saw that Domo’s, a new Japanese restaurant had just opened.  Score, something new to try!

Domo’s is a sushi and Japanese restaurant which also features 4-5 teppanyaki tables.  Teppanyaki is when the cooks make the food on a grill right in front of you.  The inside of the restaurant is very big and beautiful.  It has been remodeled from top to bottom since taking over the old Gulskins building in Lincoln Center north.  But, we didn’t go there to stare at the light fixtures and new decor, we went to eat.

The food was very good.  My wife had a California roll and asparagus roll, while I choose to go with the sesame chicken entree.  We both enjoyed our food and were even more pleasantly surprised when we got the bill.  20% had been taken off for happy hour.  All food and drinks were 20% off from 4-6 pm!

So, if you are looking for a good place to eat and for something new to do, try Domo’s Japanese restaurant in Lincoln Center.

Day 93 of 365 Things to do in Stockton: Xochimilco Mexican Cafe

Posted in 365 Things to do in Stockton, Ca on July 8th, 2010 by keebler – View Comments

Do you have another Mexican food craving? No problem, head to downtown Stockton and try one of the finest authentic Mexican restaurants in town. Xochimilco, which some call Xochy’s, has fabulous home cooked food that I cannot speak highly enough about.  This family ran restaurant is know for their homemade tortillas and salsa to the great tasting enchilda’s and tacos! Yum.  Come to think of it, everything is good!

This is defiantly a locals spot.  They are open late, 1 am, and have huge home cooked portions, which I can never finish.  It’s kinda of like a chucks, Day 18 of 365,  but only mexican food.  I encourage everyone to give them a try.  Be prepared to eat!
