Day 4 of 365: Play Ball! Banner Island Ballpark

Banner Island Ballpark, Home of the Stockton Ports Baseball team.  The Ports are a minor league team for the A’s organization.  Long time Stocktonians and minor leagues baseball fans know that Banner Island Ballpark is a HUGE upgrade from the old home of the ports, Billy Hebert Field.  Banner Island is much more intimate and it feels as if you are sitting right on the field and are part of the action.  Top it off with the beautiful views of the Delta, this ballpark sure does provide for great entertainment.  There isn’t a bad seat in the house.  And by the way, you’d better bring your glove and pay attention, because any seat has an attempt to catch a foul ball in this park.

April 15th is opening day for the Ports, but you can enjoy in the team festivities prior to that.  The Stockton Ports are hosting a FREE Fan Fest Saturday, April 3rd at Banner Island Ballpark from 2-5 pm.  Some of the activities of the day include, an Easter egg hunt for kids, scavenger hunt, batting cages, and of course splash the mascot will be there for photos and autographs.

If you are really interested in the history of the park and why it is named click the Banner Island Ballpark link.  Banner Island was once an Island where the park now sits.  Rumor has it, most of the water was filled in for developments.

For all you baseball fanatics, take a look at all the current and former MLB players who once wore the Stockton Ports uniform.  This will sure bring back some memories.
