On November 18, 2009, Public Works received notification that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has conceptually approved the proposed new interchanges planned on I-5 at Otto Drive and North Gateway Boulevard (to be located one mile north of Eight Mile Rd interchange), and the proposed interchange modifications at Hammer Lane and Eight Mile Road, for the I-5 Widening and Interchange Improvement Project .  Final FHWA approval will be granted once the final environmental document is completed, which is scheduled for the end of December 2009.
