I encourage all of you to attend or support this annual event! The 9th annual thuckin or hospice takes place this Saturday July 31st. The “Truckin for Hospice” event is a motorcycle/car rally with a run through the sierra foothills. Each year the Truckin’ for Hospice committee strives to keep the run unique by varying stop locations, providing appetizing food and raffling off great prizes.
Registration fee of $30 includes commemorative t-shirt, poker hand, food & drink. Please consider becoming a sponsor. I have had two family members (mother and grandmother) who have been helped by the services of hospice. I can say first hand the I am glad that Hospice of San Joaquin was there to support and guide our family through a very difficult time.
Take a look at the amount of money it has raised in prior years!

The downtown Stockton City Center Cinema theatre has become the center of downtown. The City of Stockton has done a lot to help the downtown area become a better place to attract businesses and therefore spend time there. The theatre is Located in Downtown Stockton in the Janet Leigh Plaza.
Although I have always found the popcorn to be better at other theaters in the area, the best “bang for your buck” is the ice cream. It is cheap and they give you a lot! Check it out!
Catching a movie is a great way to beat the weather. Enjoy a flick rain or shine! Come downtown, have dinner then see a movie at the City Cinema Theatre.

Points! Those pesky fees charged by banks and loan brokers are annoying and can sometimes be incredibly large. The good news is that that fee can be deducted on your taxes.
The IRS says so!Surprisingly the IRS site on points is very easy to read.
Points may also be called loan origination fees, maximum loan charges, loan discount, or discount points. I have read the IRS page on points and I believe I have a clear understanding of how it works. However, I am not a tax professional nor do I give tax advice.
Attention Home Buyers: Please, please, please consult your accountant to see how much you can write off. Be sure to save your HUD-1 (the form which breaks-down the money) that you the receive from escrow.
So how is it deducted? Here is the example taken from the IRS site.
Example.
You use the cash method of accounting. In 2009, you took out a $100,000 loan payable over 20 years. The terms of the loan are the same as for other 20-year loans offered in your area. You paid $4,800 in points. You made 3 monthly payments on the loan in 2009. You can deduct $60 [($4,800 ÷ 240 months) x 3 payments; in 2009. In 2010, if you make all twelve payments, you will be able to deduct $240 ($20 x 12).

The Miracle Mile has a new hot spot. The Ave on the Mile just recently opened and it is fast becoming a popular spot among the Stockton locals. See the great reviews on Yelp.
The Ave on the Mile is a classy place that features a modern look that is also comfy. It has a great bar with some very tasty drinks. But the one thing that tends to stand out from the look and feel of the place is the quality of service. Kevin, the owner makes it a point to come over to you and your party to greet and welcome you. He leads by example and this truly helps guide the staff.
The upscale feeling is something you would find in the Bay Area or somewhere else besides Stockton. If you have not been there, stop in for lunch or dinner, sit on the great patio and give it a try.
Since 1958, Pacific Avenue Bowl has been providing a safe family fun oriented lanes to the public of all ages. The bowling alley is located on 5939 Pacific Avenue and on the web at http://www.pacificbowl.com/.
Pacific Bowl has many leagues for adults and children. It has one of the best youth bowling leagues in the area.
One of the most popular things they offer is cosmic bowling which happens every Friday night. Cosmic bowling is played soley under the disco-ball style lights. Call to make reservations as lanes can fill up quick.
During the summer months my son can get a little lazy sometimes. He likes to sleep in, play video games or watach TV. I was looking for a place to him to get out and be active. In my search I found the IMPACT teen center. It has fun activities such as bowling, a computer lab, rock climbing wall, basketball and more.
Membership is only $5 per year! You can’t be that price.
The Gary & Janice Podesto IMPACT Teen Center opened in April 2005, after being created out of the old El Dorado Bowl. The center promotes participation in recreational experiences and health and wellness through a variety of activities.

This weekend is suppose to be a hot one. Cool off at the Weber’s Point Water fountain. I stopped by yesterday and it was full of kids running through the fountain beating the heat.
The kid’s were having a blast! Not only does it cool them off on these hot summer days, but they are interactive and can be some-what controlled. Some parents looked to have been their a few hours as they made a day out of it. Many had picnics and were enjoying the cool water themselves.
The other day my wife and I did not want to cook. It was hot, we were indecisive on what to make, and neither of us felt like standing in the kitchen. Luckily, there are many great restaurants to choose from in Stockton. Great, another decision to make! We choose to head over to Lincoln Center (day 2 of 365 Things to do in Stockton) and pick a place to eat. We got there and saw that Domo’s, a new Japanese restaurant had just opened. Score, something new to try!
Domo’s is a sushi and Japanese restaurant which also features 4-5 teppanyaki tables. Teppanyaki is when the cooks make the food on a grill right in front of you. The inside of the restaurant is very big and beautiful. It has been remodeled from top to bottom since taking over the old Gulskins building in Lincoln Center north. But, we didn’t go there to stare at the light fixtures and new decor, we went to eat.
The food was very good. My wife had a California roll and asparagus roll, while I choose to go with the sesame chicken entree. We both enjoyed our food and were even more pleasantly surprised when we got the bill. 20% had been taken off for happy hour. All food and drinks were 20% off from 4-6 pm!
So, if you are looking for a good place to eat and for something new to do, try Domo’s Japanese restaurant in Lincoln Center.
